Intro to Tenkara Fly Fishing

WHAT IS TENKARA

Tenkara (Japanese: テンカラ; literally means "fishing from heaven”) is a traditional method of fly fishing that originated in Japan more than 400 years ago. Primarily fishing with only a rod (without reel), line and fly in mountain streams. The simplicity and portability with light gear make it perfect for backpackers, anglers and beginners to try tenkara and enjoy the minimalist nature in fishing.

FROM EAST TO WEST

The culture of tenkara was discovered and shared to the West by Daniel W. Galhardo in 2007 when there was no information available in English. Daniel has then founded Tenkara USA in 2009 in designing tenkara rods and spread the knowledge and techniques worldwide.
